We have started a gofundme campaign to raise money for the mission of the Peoples Synod both in person, when it is safe, and also to provide webinars to build up to the in person synod.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, we are moving to a virtual platform in August 2020 which will be a starting point for an in-person Synod which will be developed from the results of the webinars in August and when it is deemed safe to meet in person for a larger event.
We need funds to cover event logistics (deposits for the site, speaker fees, printing costs, audio-visual, etc.) We invite you to join with us in this exciting experiment developed by the People for the People to address issues equally present in our country and Church. Our unique perspective considers “the realistic whole” and what we can do about it within the values of our faith. The Church exists in a toxic culture affecting us all. Catholics are citizens of both and we will dialogue about the possibilities before us. Please help us reach our goal.
The American culture is in turmoil and has markedly wounded the Catholic Church. Uncertainty, confusion and hostile divisiveness have polarized values. Relationships have lost their prior values to instant and overwhelming technology.
The Catholic Church is struggling to remove itself from the pain and suffering caused by sequential global scandals that cut at the heart of every loyal Catholic. The values of OUR faith have the potential to rekindle our nation’s values.
We, at the American Catholic Council, believe that where we are today paves a path our children will inherit. We believe dialogue is essential as we define “the times” and create local solutions for the future. We must leave our passivity and accept these cultural realities. We have been good disciples (students). We hold our values as our common identity. We are called to become apostles. We see ourselves using our modeled values to, not proselytize, but discuss local issues to begin healthy societal transitions as we “become” church in society living intentionally.
Help us launch this celebratory event where we, citizens of both an American society and the catholic faith, act to understand the breadth and depth of local grassroots issues to create accountable, inviting communities where collaboration and collegiality transform possibilities, people and processes. We need seed money for deposits for our location, speakers, printing, music, etc. to make this event a marker moment in the lives of attendees and the future of the church.
